Awards season joy as Sheffield curry house, chef and Italian restaurants storm awards

It must be awards season '“ as scores of Sheffield food businesses and a city chef have shone in various ceremonies.Â

Chef Luke French, of Joro based in Kelham Island, has claimed a new title.  He won the Dark Horse Wine Award, in olive magazine's inaugural chef awards.  Head judge Laura Rowe said: 'This was a no-brainer for our judges '“ Luke's food is special and hard to define.

'There's no one else producing food quite like this in the country, and we're sure it won't be long before Michelin comes knocking.'

The Vine curry house, in Mosborough, picked up the '˜best restaurant and takeaway in the north east prize' at the first

Asian Restaurant and Takeaway Awards held in London. 

The awards recognised the best curry houses in the country. 

On Ecclesall Road, Nonna's restaurant recently came runner up in the team category at the English Italian Awards.

At the same ceremony, Rossi's of Sharrow was also a runner up in the '˜favourite Italian business' category. 

There could also be more good news to come today, as Sheffield Cheesemasters of Kelham Island is in the final of the Great British Cheese Awards, which were due to take place as the Sheffield Telegraph went to press yesterday. Owner Sophie Williamson was nominated in the best new producer category.
