A similar show of solidarity saw the French flag flying over the town hall following last November's Paris attacks.

More than 30 people were killed on Tuesday morning when terrorists set off bombs in the departure lounge of Brussels airport, and on an underground train in the city.

ISIS have claimed responsibility for the attacks which have provoked condemnation and revulsion around the world.

A number of British people were injured in Tuesday's atrocity and one Briton remains missing.
