The Bishop of Sheffield is to speak at an event focused on tackling the city’s poverty issues.
The Right Reverend Dr Steven Croft will open the meeting at the Victoria Hall Methodist Church, on Norfolk Street in the city centre, which is taking place on Saturday, November 29, between 10am and 12.30pm.
The event has been organised by Church Action on Poverty in Sheffield, the People’s Assembly for Sheffield and Sheffield Equality Group.
It will include a presentation of the results of the Listen Up! project, which involved in-depth interviews with people struggling with poverty living in the Sheffield area.
A spokesman for the event said: “It is hoped all those concerned with poverty problems in the Sheffield area will come to this meeting and join us in looking for a better way forward.”
The event will also include discussion of the role of food banks in the city, the impact of benefit sanctions in Sheffield and an update on the progress of the work of the Sheffield Fairness Commission. Those attending will be able to take part in the discussions and ask questions of the speakers.
