SHEFFIELD soldier Stewart Kitridge is in for a surprise when he celebrates his birthday this month while serving in Afghanistan – thanks to Sheffield United.
Stewart (pictured), from Parson Cross, is Colour Sergeant in Corunna Company, part of the 3rd Battalion, the Yorkshire Regiment, and will be 36 on April 14.
Fiancée Alexis Moss said: “Corunna Company have been having a tough time out there and I just wanted something special to give Stewart a lift on his birthday. He’s a massive Sheffield United fan so I got in touch with the club to see if there was anything they could do.
“Within 20 minutes they had got back to me, saying there was a signed shirt in the post. It’s a fantastic gesture and I just wanted to let people know what sort of club they are.’’
Stewart is scheduled to finish his tour in September.
Alexis added: “The parcels the boys receive out there mean the world to them. Stewart will be absolutely thrilled.’’
