A NEW acting school was launched in Sheffield with a sprinkling of Hollywood stardust as Boardwalk Empire star Stephen Graham stopped by to show his support.
StandBy Method Acting and Film Institute, run by Sheffield-based actors Sarah Spencer and Louise O’Leary, is offering group and one-to-one tuition in method acting.
The star of This Is England, who is currently earning plaudits as 1920s gangster Al Capone in Sky Atlantic’s hit series Boardwalk Empire, said: “It’s places like this that give aspiring actors, as I was, the chance to shine in their own unique way.
“If anyone in Sheffield has dreams of getting into film, theatre or any other kind of acting, StandBy gets my vote as the best place to start.”
Louise said: “It’s about time Sheffield had a haven for local actors to work on their craft in a pressure-free environment but we also wanted to provide something new and exciting for those who have never had a chance to express themselves, their talents and experiences in a creative way.”
