Boxer Herol '˜Bomber' Graham is showing his fighting spirit as he recovers from major surgery in hospital.

Herol, who trained at Brendan Ingle’s Sheffield gym during his successful career, was admitted to Whittington Hospital in London three weeks ago with what turned out to be a burst appendix. He suffered complications and had to have an operation an operation.

Herol’s friend Andy Brace said: “Doctors and family were initially very concerned for the former British boxing champion but Herol has shown what a fighter he is and has now started on the long road to recovery.

“He defied doctors’ orders and personally released himself from the tubes connected to help him eat and has now started to feed himself. He will remain in hospital for the short term as more tests are carried out.”

People from Sheffield and throughout the boxing community rushed to send messages of support to the boxer, widely regarded as one of the best never to win a world title. And more than £1,300 has so far been donated at crowdfunding.justgiving.com/HerolBomberGraham.

Andy said: “Herol has been inundated with messages through social media and also with cards and gifts.

“Herol and his partner Karen wish to thank everybody for their generosity and are overwhelmed by peoples kindness at this difficult time.”
