SHEFFIELD shoppers seem determined to be ready for another grim winter - despite one of the mildest Christmas Days for years.
The city has only had a light covering of snow once this year, compared to 2010 and 2009 when frozen weather lasted for weeks.
But Sheffield branch of sports and leisure chain Decathlon reported sledges and winter boots high on the list of popular buys in December.
“We sold a staggering 200 sledges in three days after the first snowfall while sales of winter boots were up 30 per cent on last year,” said customer services manager Danny Levelle.
“The figures for children’s winter boots were even more impressive - up 180 per cent on last year.
“At that point, we hadn’t even had a real covering of snow. It seems no one wants to be caught out and they’re determined to be ready if we have snow in the New Year.”
