Blunkett criticises Government over jobs switch overseas

Brightside and Hillsborough MP David Blunkett this week condemned the Government for “preaching job creation whilst in reality spending public money through Government departments on ‘off shoring’ existing jobs to countries across the world”.

His criticism follows a decision by SCCL, a private company part-owned by the Government, to shut the Department for Work and Pensions office at Kings Court in Hanover Way with the loss of 239 jobs. The work is going to India.

Mr Blunkett said privatisation “is leading to potential closure of facilities in Sheffield and the bizarre situation of jobs in this country and in our city being placed in other parts of the world.

“The Government are always banging on about restricting immigration and therefore making jobs potentially available to British citizens. They are doing the exact opposite here by taking jobs away from British people and placing the work elsewhere.”

Sheffield Central MP Paul Blomfield has led opposition in Parliament.
