HIGH Storrs students Laura Harris and Rhianna McLennan are using their budding business expertise to help get them all the way to Venezuela.
The 14-year-olds produced a range of products from recycled drinks cans, including Christmas decorations, tea light holders, key rings, fridge magnets, wall hangers and coasters as part of the Big Challenge competition for schools.
Selling the items at craft fairs, local businesses and, at school, they have so far made sales of more than £300 thanks to the venture they call Choose2reuse
Now Laura, of Bingham Park Road, Greystones, and Rhianna, of Edale Road, High Storrs, are using the proceeds from the business towards a World Challenge expedition to Venezuela in the summer of 2013.
The project sees students travelling two days by boat to join a tribal community in the jungle, helping with a building project and working in the local school over three weeks.
In total, the year 10 students will each have to raise £3,500.
Laura’s mum, Diane, said: “They have made a really good start with their idea for a small business.”
The girls have a Choose2reuse facebook page and can be contacted at firstname.lastname@example.org.
