CHILDREN’S bookshop owner Richard Welsh received an unexpected visit from Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, who called at the store to buy gifts for his sons.

Sheffield Hallam MP Mr Clegg popped into Rhyme & Reason, on Ecclesall Road, Hunters Bar, while taking a break from business in his constituency.

He said: “I’m a big supporter of small shops and I think that Rhyme & Reason is excellent – it’s quite small but has an incredible range.

“I bought books including the Gruffalo, a football book and one called The Rhyming Rabbit, by Julia Donaldson, which is illustrated by Sheffield artist Lydia Monks.”

Mr Welsh, whose store sells books for children of all ages, said: “It was the first time I’d seen Nick come to the shop but members of his family have been in before.

“He spent around 15 to 20 minutes here and said he would be back another time.”
