We pride ourselves on getting on and getting things done in the Sheffield City Region.

So already we have proactive ‘arms’ of the SCR demonstrating how effective our approach is proving.

They include our Enterprise Zone, the Growth Hub, Skills and Employment, and the Inward Investment team.

The Sheffield City Region is home to the UK’s foremost Enterprise Zone for modern manufacturing, advanced engineering and technology.

Our zone is spread across several sites in Barnsley, Bolsover, Chesterfield, Doncaster, North East Derbyshire, Rotherham and Sheffield.

Enterprise Zones

These are designated by the Government to provide specialist support and incentives for companies which move onto them and create employment. There are currently 46 in England.

The Growth Hub

The Growth Hub aims to be the single central point of contact for all business support across the Sheffield City Region.

It also signposts to support from the range of regional and national business support available.

Experienced business growth specialists offer support in six areas: access to finance, skills and training, innovation, export, start-up and growth demand.

The Hub, launched in April this year, has already helped enterprises – from a community interest company working with young people, to a door manufacturer and a business selling IT equipment.

Skills and employment

Our work encompasses a range of initiatives to help boost employment in the region. They include:

Enterprise Advisors – pairs business representatives with senior management teams in schools.

The Skills Bank – a route for employers to get co-investment from the public sector to support the development of their workforce and help their company to grow by increasing productivity.

Grants for Apprentices – providing grants to support firms with less than 100 staff with the cost of employing an apprentice.

Ambition SCR – helps 18-24 year olds who have been looking for work for three months to get the skills they need to get a job.
