THE Cutlers’ Company of Hallamshire has elected a female Master for the first time in more than 350 years.

Pam Liversidge, OBE, a qualified engineer and managing director of Quest Investments, was named Master Cutler elect at a meeting of Freemen of the Company of Cutlers. She will be installed on October 4.

Her husband, Doug Liversidge, himself a former Master (1998) will hold the title of Consort while the role of Mistress Cutler will be undertaken by Jean Stone, the wife of David Stone, also a previous Master.

During her career in industry, Mrs Liversidge has received a number of accolades acknowledging her contribution to manufacturing in general and engineering in particular. Appointed the first female president of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers in 1997, she was awarded an OBE for services to engineering in 1999 and was High Sheriff of South Yorkshire from 2004 to 2005. A mechanical engineering graduate from Aston University, she is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and a Fellow of the City and Guilds Institute

In 1993 she set up her own business to manufacture specialist metal powders, notably for medical engineering, and from 1999 became managing director and principle shareholder of Quest Investments, a Sheffield-based holding company for several engineering enterprise.
