James Bond apprentices raise £7,000 for charity

Apprentices from the AMRC Training Centre have raised more than £7,000 for the Master Cutler’s Challenge after organising a James Bond-themed gala dinner at the University of Sheffield’s Firth Hall.

The nine-strong team, aged 17 to 26, organised the venue, music, food, seating and raffle with auction prizes donated by businesses and supporters.

Torston Middleton aged 17, from Newburgh Engineering, said: “We actually had no idea how hard it would be to get it off the ground but we’re an ambitious bunch!

“We were blown away by the generosity of people and companies who helped us.

“To begin with, the vice chancellor of the University of Sheffield, Sir Keith Burnett, was extraordinary. Without him we might have been sitting in a field, as he provided the venue and the food to help us maximise our fundraising.

“Local companies have donated wonderful prizes – we are very grateful for all the support we received.”
