‘Meadowhall best for HS2’

The body overseeing public transport in South Yorkshire wants the local high speed rail station to be near Meadowhall, despite Sheffield City Council saying it should go in the city centre.

South Yorkshire Integrated Transport Authority says the route between Birmingham and Leeds can have “a transformational effect” locally, “bringing significant growth, jobs and opening up new markets for local businesses”.

Sheffield also believes HS2 can bring huge benefits - but says the maximum impact wiil be realised on the site of the old Victoria station off the Wicker.
