Sheffield was named this week as one of the best councils to do business with.
It was one of ten authorities highlighted by the Government for their “innovative” dealings that help small businesses.
Lord Young, the Prime Minister’s Enterprise Adviser, said: “Taking the red tape away from the public sector procurement process will give an enormous boost to entrepreneurs and a big reduction in costs to Government.
“This competition is providing a vital service in shining a light on the very best councils, and I welcome the steps that they have taken to open up their own procurement, helping to get local small businesses growing and fit for the global race.”
Winners attended a reception at Downing Street.
