The newest independent bar in Sheffield has been unveiled – and is bringing a new bounce to an up-and-coming city road.
Picture House Social, in the site of the former Abbey Snooker Club in the basement of Abbeydale Picture House, has a table tennis room with three tables – similar to popular games bars in Leeds and London.
It also includes a vintage-style bar, outside terrace and kitchen serving Italian street food, with ingredients imported from Italy.
The bar, on Abbeydale Road, is not easy to spot, with only a door from the street showing the way –but it is already proving a hit with customers including many from the independent businesses that have opened in the area recently.
James O’ Hara, co-founder of The Great Gatsby on Division Street and behind the new bar, said: “I don’t want to be a thing that is shouted about so much.
“We have been packed at weekends so far.
“It has fitted into the independent vibe, people have been supportive and we are working with the Hop Hideout just down the road.
“We wanted ping pong, because it is a game everyone can play even if they are rubbish, and a lot are having a go.
“The menu is something we took a lot of time over. We have imported the right flour from Italy and even the tomatoes have to come from within 30 miles of Mount Vesuvius.
“We’ve gone for it to be quite different.”
