SHEFFIELD businesswoman Dr Sipra Deb is on the shortlist for the Entrepreneurial Asian Woman of Achievement Award.
The former High Storrs teacher turned an old warehouse off Little London Road into The Play Area, one of the UK’s largest indoor play centres 18 months ago.
Sipra, whose father was murdered in India eight years ago, used the internet to write her business plan and secured funding from six banks during two years of research and planning. She was a finalist last year in the Marie Claire and Everywoman business awards.
She also supports several small ventures run by ethnic minorities and women.
The award ceremony, backed by The Royal Bank of Scotland and in recognition of the contribution of Asian women to Britain’s economy and society, is at the London Hilton Park Lane on May 15.
