Tribute was paid this week to Dr Kenneth Freeman, the managing director and chairman of Henderson’s Relish, who died aged 92.

The funeral was held on Monday in Liverpool, where he lived, but from where he made regular visits to the business in Sheffield until he became ill in July.

He inherited the family company from his aunt in 1991, retiring as a GP.

Dr Freeman oversaw the growth of the business and, most recently, the relocation from Leavygreave Road, opposite the old Jessop Hospital, to new and bigger premises at the Parkway Business Park.

Office manager Liz Castleton said: “It was his passion.”

Dr Freeman, who died on December 19, leaves his wife, Pamela, a son, Simon, a daughter, Julia, and seven grandchildren. The business, dating from the late 19th century, remains in the family’s hands.
