People are being told to stay away from the hospital’s emergency department unless they need urgent treatment.

A post on Facebook said: “SHARE: Our Emergency Department is currently BUSY. If you do not need urgent care, please don't come to this service.”

It is the latest in a series of warnings by Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to divert people away from accident and emergency at busy times.

Before Christmas an alert was issued which read: “Yesterday was another extremely busy day for our emergency departments and today is shaping up similar.

“Across both Doncaster and Worksop, we cared for around 270 patients with 'minor' ailments or injuries.

“If you don't need to come to the Emergency Department, please don't come. There are plenty of alternative health services in the area.”
