Campaigner sets up march against canned lion hunting

A wildlife campaigner is staging a march in Sheffield city centre against canned lion hunting in South Africa.

The Fargate event, on Saturday, March, 15, is part of a global campaign with cities across the world making a stand and raising awareness about this type of hunting.

The lions are bred in small enclosures, before being hunted and kept as trophies.

Amie Sleight, event organiser, said the ‘barbaric’ style of hunting needs to stop.

She said: “If this carries on as well as what’s happening to them out in the wild in 20-30 years, lions could be extinct in the wild.”
