Protesters are set to demonstrate at Sheffield’s Midland Station tomorrow over plans to put up train fares.

Campaigners from Sheffield Uncut are due to be at the station from 7.30am until 8.30am as part of a national day of action.

It coincides with the day that fare rises are announced for next year.

A spokesman for the campaign group, said: “It’s time to make a stand.

“We cannot afford to be throwing away this money.

“For the sake of the environment, more than anything, we must be investing in and expanding our public transport system, so it is easy, efficient, affordable and, dare I say, even enjoyable for people as a vital alternative to cars and short-haul flights.”

The group is campaigning to encourage the government to bring the railways back into public ownership.
