Celebrations were held on Wadsley and Loxley Common, marking the approach of 100 years since the land was donated to the people of Sheffield.

Activities included Maypole dancing, a treasure hunt organised by Wadsley Cubs and Scouts, parachute games, kite making and music from the Penistone Ukulele Band.

A spokesperson for the voluntary group, Wadsley and Loxley Commoners, said Saturday’s event, opened by Lord Mayor Vickie Priestley, was “a resounding success”.

The common was donated in November 1913 by three sisters of the Payne family, who lived in Loxley House.
