Chesterfield FC has confirmed it is not interested in signing Ched Evans.
The Derbyshire Times has been contacted by Spireites fans seeking assurances that the club would not sign the convicted rapist.
A Chesterfield FC spokesman said: “We would not be interested in signing Ched Evans.”
Oldham Athletic is currently debating whether to sign 26-year-old Evans. More than 20,000 people have signed a petition urging Latics bosses not to press ahead with the move.
In April 2012, Evans was convicted of raping a 19-year-old woman in a hotel the year before while he was a player for Sheffield United.
Evans maintains his innocence and an investigation into his conviction by the Criminal Cases Review Commission is underway.
