A PROTEST against Government spending cuts was staged outside Sheffield Town Hall on Saturday.
Unions, politicians and other groups joined forces to warn of the effect on public services and jobs, calling for a united campaign to force the Government to think again.
Bernard Little, co-chair of Sheffield Green Party, said: “The coalition government’s cuts will have a huge impact on large numbers of people. The latest unemployment figures for young people are the worst for many years. Older people will suffer because of the cuts in pension levels. And people with severe disabilities and illnesses will be forced to seek jobs despite their health problems.
“Tax evasion, avoidance and unpaid tax cost the UK around £100bn every year. With that money, cuts would not be necessary. Essential public and social services could flourish.”
