A SHEFFIELD company erected the steel mesh fence that now surrounds the City Hall.
Betafence, the UK’s largest fencing manufacturer, says the same type of structure, in a concrete base, has previously been used outside the European Parliament in Strasbourg and at the G8 summit in L’Aquila, Italy. It is currently being used at sporting stadia across Europe.
The system has been designed and patented by the Betafence Group, which employs 300 workers at its factory in Shepcote Lane.
At present it is assembled at its factory in Italy but in future it may also be manufactured in Sheffield.
lBuses will not run on Leopold Street for the duration of the conference, tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday.
lThe City Hall box office will be relocated to Ponds Forge until after the conference, on Monday.
Telephone inquiries and online ticket purchases will not be affected.
