Construction team gives Sheffield hospice gardens a makeover

Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice near Sheffield has had an outside makeover, thanks to a giant team effort from Hope Construction Materials which operates sites in the area.

Hope, which operates quarries near Buxton and Rotherham; a cement works in the Hope Valley; and several concrete plants in the area, has a long-standing partnership with the hospice which offers care and support to children with a shortened life expectancy, both in their own homes and at the North Anston facillity. The company has been a significant supporter of the charity, particularly through its Hope for Others scheme which encourages employees to give up to two days per year to support a good cause.

Recently a large Hope team including all its apprentices from around the country; Chief Executive Officer, Chris Plant; members of the HR team; John Mulryan and John Stocks from Hope Cement Works and colleagues from Bradwell-based contractor, Centreplain spent some time at the Hospice, improving the outside facilities and grounds.

Hope’s Learning and Development Manager Nicola Wood says: “It was a real pleasure to once again join forces with, and support this wonderful charity. This time we brought along a large team of colleagues who were able to make a real difference to the outside grounds of the Hospice.

“We spent the day doing many jobs including cleaning outdoor play equipment, repairing a willow arch and installing a rotary clothes dryer. In addition to our practical hands-on help, this time we were also able to support the hospice by donating, delivering and laying some concrete. The concrete was used to build ramps up to a new Donation Station, and also some slabs as the base for a recycling project which the Hospice team has in the pipeline.”

Sandra Hind, corporate volunteer co-ordinator at Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice, said: “On behalf of everyone at Bluebell Wood we’d like to say a big thanks to each and every one of the Hope team members for their time volunteering with us. In addition, we were so pleased with Hope’s generosity in donating materials and tools and supervision. This work has made a huge positive difference to our hospice; as a charity that needs to raise £4m a year, we are focused on making sure every penny counts and Hope’s contribution has been fantastic.”
