An electrician injured while working at student accommodation in Sheffield is in a serious but stable condition.

The contractor was rushed to hospital yesterday afternoon following an incident at The Forge on Boston Street.

A second electrician working in the building was also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The men, who aged 30 and 31, are not from the local area.

Power to three blocks within The Forge went down following the incident and is yet to be restored.

Unite Students, that manages the property, is continuing to provide alternative accommodation for students affected by the power outage.

A spokesman said: “Our students have been offered alternative accommodation for a further night while repair work and investigations continue.

“We are hopeful they can return tomorrow, but are making preparations for alternative accommodation into the weekend should an earlier restoration of service not be possible.”

Police and the Health and Safety Executive are continuing with enquiries.
