Arrest after knifeman steals car on Sheffield street sparking police chase

An arrest has been made after a man armed with a knife stole a car in Sheffield last night before leading police on a chase.

The incident started in Gainsford Road, Darnall at around 10.15pm, with the armed man hitting a number of other cars with the stolen vehicle as he drove it.

He came to a stop and was pursued on foot by police officers to Ronald Road, where he was arrested.

A spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Police said: “The 25-year-old Sheffield man remains in police custody on suspicion of robbery and aggravated vehicle taking.

“The suspect suffered injuries to his face but no one else was injured.

“It is still the very early stages of the inquiry and police are still identifying and speaking to witnesses.

“Police are keen to speak to anyone who saw what happened.”
