Relatives of a teenager murdered in an horrific knife attack have spoken of their devastation and said: “We cannot believe this has happened to someone we love so much.”
Police said pretty Reema Ramzan, aged 18, from Darnall, died after a ‘severe knife attack’ which emergency services workers said was among the worst they had ever dealt with.
A statement issued by Reema’s relatives said: “We are devastated as a family at the loss of Reema, a loved daughter and sister. We cannot believe that this has happened to someone we love so much.
“We ask that if any person has information about what happened to Reema, they contact South Yorkshire Police.
“We ask at this time to be left as a family to grieve and try to come to terms with what has happened.”
Reema’s body was discovered in a flat on Herries Road, Shirecliffe, on Tuesday afternoon.
A seriously injured man, in his 20s, was found lying in the street outside.
He had knife wounds to his chest – and horrified eyewitnesses said one of his nipples had been ‘gouged out’. The man is still in hospital in a critical condition.
When he is deemed fit by medics to be interviewed, he will be quizzed by detectives on suspicion of murder.
Police are guarding him while he remains in hospital.
Police said they are treating the murder as a ‘domestic incident’ and are not looking for anyone else in connection with the inquiry.
The murder scene was still cordoned off and under police guard yesterday.
Forensic experts carried out a sweep of the property and the spot where the suspect was found.
