IT may look festive but South Yorkshire Police this week warned householders to avoid leaving Christmas presents on display under the tree.
Chief Insp Shaun Morley said: “House burglaries in South Yorkshire are at their lowest levels for 27 years. However, don’t entice burglars into your property by leaving presents under the tree.
“To prevent yourself becoming a victim of crime and spoiling your Christmas, remove any valuable property out of sight.”
The force has issued a number of festive safety tips, including urging revellers to stick together and to look after each other, and using taxis or having a designated driver to avoid the risk of drink-driving.
