Extra officers will be on duty in Rotherham tomorrow for the Sheffield Wednesday derby.

Police chiefs are warning of a ‘visible policing presence’ around the ground and in the town centre in a bid to keep ‘disruption to a minimum’.

Barriers will also be in place around the ground to keep rival fans apart.

Chief Inspector Richard Butterworth, who is overseeing the policing of the match, said: “We are planning for a safe, enjoyable event for everyone attending and we are expecting a great atmosphere.

“I will ensure we provide a welcoming environment for fans who want to attend and enjoy the game and endeavour that there is as little disruption as possible for people conducting their daily business in the town centre.

“However, we will not tolerate any level of disorder or violence.”

Rotherham United’s Stadium Manager, Paul Davis, added: “We are looking forward to hosting Sheffield Wednesday at the AESSEAL New York Stadium on Saturday.

“We urge all supporters to get to the ground as early as possible to avoid any last minute queues at the turnstiles.

“There are roadworks in operation on Centenary Way and so we urge all supporters to set off in good time.”
