Family starting their clean-up after arson

FAMILY and friends are rallying around to help a family whose home in Sicey Lane, Shiregreen, was badly damaged when an arsonist poured petrol through the front door and threw a lit match.

Paul and Helen Taylor and their nine-year-old son Kieran were not in the property at the time of the attack last Friday. “The firemen said if the arsonist had done it at night we would have all been dead,” said mechanic Paul. “We were very lucky we weren’t in.”

He believes the arson was a case of mistaken identity but it has left rooms covered in soot and smoke and they were not insured. Their German Shepherd dog escaped unharmed.

Police are investigating.
