A NORTH Derbyshire man was arrested on his stag night following a drunken attack on a well-wisher.

Victim Laurence Kennel congratulated Daniel Johnson on his impending wedding and was then head-butted in the mouth.

He lost two front teeth in the assault.

The incident took place in Chesterfield town centre on the night of March 30, when he was so drunk his pals were carrying him.

Town magistrates heard Johnson, aged 25, became angry and aggressive after Mr Kennel remarked he had ‘had a good night’.

Mr Kennel told police he asked Johnson to calm down. He was just about to walk away when Johnson broke free from his friends and head-butted him.

“Two of my teeth had come out. I picked them up and my mouth was bleeding,” he said.

Mr Kennel said losing his teeth had affected his self-confidence and dental work could take up to a year to complete at a cost of £2,000.

“He said he was due to go to Australia and he didn't know if he could go now as he had to pay for his treatment.

“Two lads had come over and were friendly and chatty and congratulated the defendant on his wedding plans,” said Becky Mahon, prosecuting.

Johnson told police after he sobered up he could not recall the incident.

He only remembered waking up on his wedding day with a bad hangover and a cut to his head.

Johnson, of Rogers Avenue, Creswell, Derbyshire, admitted assault. He will be sentenced in August.
