Man charged over knifepoint theft of a car in Sheffield

A man has been charged over the knifepoint theft of a car in Sheffield.

Amir Khan, aged 25, of Prince of Wales Road, Darnall, was arrested on Saturday night following reports that a man armed with a knife had stolen a car on Gainsford Road, also in Darnall.

The vehicle struck a number of cars before the driver jumped out and fled.

He was chased by police officers and arrested on a nearby street.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said Khan has been charged with blackmail, making threats with an offensive weapon and failing to provide a sample when requested.

He is due to appear at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court this morning.
