A man has been charged in connection with the sex attack on a 71-year-old woman in Sheffield earlier this week.

Martin Holmes, aged 52, of Machon Bank, Nether Edge, was charged with aggravated burglary and two counts of sexual assault.

He was arrested last night and has now been remanded in custody until he appears at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

A police spokesman said: “On Tuesday, between 9.30am and 10.30am, a 71-year-old woman was in a property on Cobnar Drive, Sheffield, when an unknown man is believed to have entered.

“He allegedly threatened the woman with a knife and stole money and jewellery from the property and is then reported to have sexually assaulted her.”
