PC in court over student’s death

A SOUTH Yorkshire police officer accused of killing a Sheffield student in a car crash is facing trial over the teenager’s death.

PC Rodney Mills, aged 42, of Owlthorpe Rise, Mosborough, appeared at Bradford Magistrates’ Court charged with causing the death by dangerous driving of 19-year-old Jamie Haslett last October.

Jamie, a Hallam student, died after being hit by a police car on Broad Lane, Sheffield.

Mills denies the charge and will be tried at Bradford Crown Court later next month.
