Police bravery award for citizen

A man who risked his own safety to search a blazing house will be presented with a bravery award by South Yorkshire Police on Tuesday.

Stephen William Thacker, aged 23, will be given the Commander’s Commendation by Chief Superintendent Andy Brooke for his courage and public service.

He noticed that a house on Jackson Street, Goldthorpe, Barnsley, was on fire just after midnight on October 12, entered the house to search for residents and later assisted fire crews.
