Police hunt gunman who struck at Sheffield bookmakers

A gunman is being hunted by police for holding up a bookmakers in Sheffield.

The armed robber struck at Ladbrokes on Station Road, Mosborough, last Saturday morning.

Police said he entered the shop and threatened staff before escaping with a quantity of cash.

Detective Constable Chris Campbell, of South Yorkshire Police, said: “We are appealing to anyone who may have been in the Station Road area on Saturday morning, who may have seen suspicious activity or witnessed the incident, to come forward and assist with our investigation.

“This business was targeted not long after it opened and the incident has left staff very shaken.

“I want to reassure the local community that we are doing all we can to identify the person responsible.”

Detectives are looking for possible links with another raid on a bookmakers in Sheffield committed on the same day.

At 5pm last Saturday a gunman struck at Coral on Bradway Road, Bradway, demanding money from staff.

The same shop was also held up in April, when robbers armed with a gun and a hammer threatened staff before escaping with a substantial amount of cash.

Last month a gunman threatened a petrol station worker with a handgun in Sheffield.

He struck at the High Street service station, Beighton, and escaped with cigarettes and cash.

Anyone with information about the two raids on the bookmakers should call Ecclesfield CID on 101 quoting incident number 340 of December 6.
