A GUNMAN is being hunted by police in South Yorkshire today after a man was left fighting for life following a shooting.

Police said the 42-year-old victim was discovered with a life threatening gunshot wound next to a takeaway on Doncaster Road, Wath-upon-Dearne, at 8.40pm last night.

He was rushed to hospital, where he remains today.

Armed and uniformed police officers are patrolling the area around the crime scene this morning, which is cordoned off while police investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said the shooting was being treated as ‘an isolated targeted incident’.

She added: “Emergency services were called to a house, next door to a takeaway, on Doncaster Road at 8.40pm yesterday evening, after the ambulance service received reports of a man with a gunshot wound.

“A 42-year-old local man was taken to hospital last night with life-threatening injuries. His condition remains unchanged this morning.

“Officers are on the scene and enquiries continue.”

Police want to hear from anyone in the Doncaster Road area between 8.15pm and 9pm last night.
