South Yorkshire Police have admitted they did not arrest a suspected abuser who was found with a 15-year-old girl - but insist the victim was not arrested either, as she claims.
Holly Archer, who is now 17, told a meeting of the Police and Crime Panel on Thursday that she had been arrested while her abuser was let go.
But police have issued a statement in which they said had she been removed from the location ‘for safeguarding reasons’.
A 23-year-old man was served with a child abduction notice, which acts as a warning that a suspect may be arrested if they maintain contact with the child.
But when asked by The Star to clarify if the man was ever charged, police said ‘it would not be appropriate’ to comment.
Holly’s mother Joanne Turner said: “She was put in the back of a police car and she felt like she was being arrested.”
