Police stop and search 800 people

POLICE stopped and searched more than 800 people overs three days in Sheffield city centre as part of a crackdown on violent crime and the anti-social behaviour.

Insp Ian Roberts said: “We want people who come into the city centre to have a good time, and not be intimidated by the small minority of troublemakers.”

Officers arrested seven people for offences including drunk and disorderly behaviour, breach of bail conditions, theft, begging and being over the prescribed limit.

Alcohol was confiscated from five people, dispersal notices were served to seven and two were cautioned for possessing cannabis.
