Residents in Derbyshire urged to step up security

Neighbourhood Watch members in Grindleford have been protecting their valuables from thieves thanks Derbyshire Police.

Officers from the Hathersage Safer Neighbourhood Team have been pounding the streets encouraging residents to boost their home and garden security.

PCSO Anthony Boswell also attended a Neighbourhood Watch meeting in Grindleford to talk about crime prevention.

Members were handed free SmartWater security marking kits to protect their valuables from thieves.

SmartWater is a property marking fluid that can be used on bikes, electrical items and jewellery.

Each batch contains a unique DNA-style code which is linked to individual properties and logged on a database, making it easier for police officers to trace stolen goods.

Peter Hutchinson, Chairman of Grindleford Neighbourhood Watch, said: “By handing out SmartWater kits and signs at our group,we were able to find out more about keeping our property secure.

“This is something that we can pass onto our neighbours to help to protect our community against crime.”
