Police are investigating a serious sex assault at Wath.
Dearne residents are warned to tighten security, following the reported assault on a woman on Monday evening.
The alleged incident took place at about 6.20pm, at a property thought to be near the Waterfront area off Manvers Way.
Police have increased patrols around the area and are searching for the suspect, but no description has been issued as yet.
Wath Coun Alan Atkin said he had been made aware of the incident after reports appeared on social media website Facebook, that he confirmed with South Yorkshire Police.
He said: “We have made sure we’re locking the door at all times and that’s what people must be sure to do, as there appears to be an attacker on the loose. People round here are in shock. All anyone can do is to be watchful and sensible.”
Police are keen to speak to anyone who may hold vital information to help with the enquiry.
