The most recent murder probe was launched last week when 22-year-old Armend Xhika was knifed in an attack.

He was injured during a night of violence when a group of men were involved in fights on Earl Marshal Road, Fir Vale and Kirton Road, Pitsmooor, shortly before 8pm on Thursday, May 13.

Armend, an illegal immigrant from Albania, was driven to the Northern General Hospital and dropped off outside A&E before the driver left the scene.

Medics battled to save him and performed open heart surgery but he died a short time later.

Another young man also sustained stab wounds in the attack.

A man in his 30s and two men in their 20s who were arrested on suspicion of murder were later released without charge along with a man in his 20s arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and a woman in her 20s arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Three weeks earlier, Danny Irons, 32, was stabbed to death on Fretson Green, Manor.

The dad-of-three was found critically injured just yards away from a children’s playground in the early hours of Saturday, April 17.

Two men have been charged with his murder – Daniel Chadwick, 29, of Melville Drive, Manor and Ross Turton, 29, of Danewood Avenue, Manor.

One week before that, Sheffield solicitor Khuram Javed, also known as Khurm and Khurram, was shot dead in the city.

The 30-year-old was gunned down in an altercation in an alleyway off Clough Road, near Bramall Lane.

South Yorkshire Police said shots were fired after a ‘confrontation between two parties’.

Khuram, who was a married dad-of-two, worked for Alison law Solicitors on London Road.

Samsul Mohamed, 18, of Wolseley Road, Heeley, has been charged with murder over the shooting.

The first murder investigation of the year was launched after warehouse worker Lee Phillips, 45, was found dead at his home on South Road, High Green, after an assault.

Arrests have been made but nobody has been charged.
