A Sheffield woman allegedly raped by a man standing trial for the murder of a Bridlington guesthouse landlady has described her ordeal at the hands of the knife-wielding attacker.

The woman, from Sheffield, was giving evidence during the trial of John Heald, who is accused of murdering 49-year-old Bei Carter in Bridlington last July while on the run from the police.

In a DVD played to Hull Crown Court she said she found Heald on her doorstep after a night out.
She said he forced to put on stockings and suspenders and then raped her at knifepoint in the bedroom.

She claimed she was then taken to other rooms in her house where she was also assaulted, before Heald fell asleep and she fled.

At one point he gagged her with gaffer tape but tore it off when she couldn’t breathe.

She said Heald punched her in the face three times, leaving her with a split lip.

She said she was ‘scared stiff’.

“I was saying I’d done nothing wrong. I kept saying I have done absolutely nothing wrong.”

“He just kept waving the knife. I was so focussed on the knife,” she added.

The woman said that when Heald fell into a deep sleep, she grabbed some clothes and ran out of the house making her way to a police station where she reported the attack.

Tahir Khan QC, defending Heald suggested that the sex was consensual.

He said :“You have said in evidence that he pushed you on the bed, threatened you with a knife and then pulled out some stockings and suspenders and forced you to put them on - that’s all made up isn’t it?”

“No,” she replied.

The jury also heard from the woman’s friend who went to the police station with her.

She told the court: “She could barely walk properly. She was just a shadow of her former self, very inward, very upset.

“She was still struggling to speak properly.”

Heald, aged 53, of Foljambe Road, Rotherham, denies three counts of rape and one of murder.

The trial continues.
