ARSONISTS set fire to a shooting victim’s garage as he lay in a hospital bed fighting for life.
While Tyrone Woodhead, aged 42, was being treated in hospital for a gunshot wound to his upper body, his garage was being set on fire behind his home on Doncaster Road, Wath-upon-Dearne.
However, police said they are not linking the arson attack to the shooting and are treating the incidents as two separate offences.
Mr Woodhead was left fighting for life after he was shot on his doorstep as he opened the door to his home last Thursday, at about 8.40pm.
The gunman remained on the run last night.
A police spokeswoman said: “Officers are continuing to investigate the shooting.
“The ambulance service received reports of a man with a gunshot wound and emergency services attended.
“Mr Woodhead remains in hospital. His condition is described as life-threatening but stable.
“Detectives believe this was an isolated, targeted attack.
“A fire was reported on Monday, at 4.35am, on Monday on Doncaster Road, Wath-upon-Dearne. This was in a garage at the back of the property where the shooting took place. The garage was left with extensive fire damage.
“Police are not linking the fire to the shooting, although the cause of the fire is thought to be suspicious and is being investigated.”
Anyone with information about either incident is asked to call police on 101.
