Two men died in the fatal road smash in Sheffield at 1am this morning, police have confirmed.

A black Vauxhall Astra and a blue Peugeot 206 were involved in the crash on Blackburn Road, Wincobank.

Police say a man inside the Astra died at the scene, as did a man inside the Peugeot.

Three other men inside the Peugeot were injured and have been taken to hospital.

A 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a road traffic collision.

The road was closed but has now reopened.

Officers would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or to anyone who saw either vehicle before the collision.

Anyone with information should contact South Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 82 of 20 December 2014.

Firefighters and police remained at the scene near The Railway Hotel at 7am this morning.

A fire service spokesman said it was a ‘head on’ crash.

She added: “Multiple people were trapped and at the moment we are still assisting police at the scene.”

Crews from four different stations were sent to the incident.
