Witness appeal in arson probe

AN APPEAL for witnesses has been issued by police hunting arsonists who set fire to the front door of a house in Sheffield.

The blaze happened at an address on Grindlow Close, Gleadless, at around 8pm on Monday, January 30.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “Officers are investigating the fire as arson, as it would appear the fire was deliberately started outside the front door of the property.

“The fire spread up the front of the house causing extensive damage to the property and to personal possessions inside the house.

“Luckily, no one was in the property at the time, however, it could have had far more serious consequences had somebody been inside the house.”

■ Anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area, or has any information which may assist the investigation, can call police on 101 quoting or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
