Dancing and music marks annual SheFest in Sheffield

Hundreds of people gathered for a series of talks, events and workshops in Sheffield this weekend weekend to celebrate women, as part of International Women's Day.

Visitors to SheFest on The Moor took in the atmosphere yesterday which included music, dancing and family activities.

The festival, now in its second year, kicked off at 11am with a performance by the Sheffield University Samba Band, before the Hype Dance group showcased their talents.

A contemporary dance piece prepared by Janka Kormos highlighting womanhood and gender wowed the crowds, while the Romano Jilo troupe gave an insight into Roma culture.

At Theatre Delicatessen - the old Woolworth’s shop - visitors attended a range of 10 free workshops, ranging from lessons in belly dancing to an exploration of sexual consent.

Meanwhile along The Moor, there was also a wide range of market stalls and refreshments. Festivities continued into the evening with an international fashion show at the Broomhall Community Centre and a club night at the Great Gatsby on Division Street.

Events are set to wind up today when the Sunday Assembly gathering will be entertained by comedian and artist Chella Quint. The show starts at 11am at DINA on Cambridge Street in the city centre.

International Women's Day is celebrated on March 8 every year and commemorates the movement for women's rights.
