Dearne delivery office planned for closure

A Dearne delivery office is set to close, with Royal Mail '˜relocating' the service to a Rotherham centre instead.

Royal Mail have confirmed that its delivery operations at Maltby will come to an end on July 25.

From that date onwards, operations will be moved into its Rotherham delivery office instead, and customers living in Maltby will be able to pick up parcels from the Wickersley Post Office instead.

A spokesman for Royal Mail said: “The aim of these changes is to enable us to deliver the most efficient, consistent and reliable service to Royal Mail customers and help secure long term employment and job security for our people.

“When the move goes ahead, we expect there will be no impact on deliveries to our customers. The postmen and women who work in Maltby delivery office will continue to serve the local community, delivering a high quality service to our customers.

“Royal Mail aims to continue to provide a consistent and high quality service to our customers in Maltby.

“This is part of Royal Mail’s ongoing transformation of its business and its work to increase the efficiency of its operation. It also provides delivery offices that are fit for purpose for our staff and for our customers.

“As a commercial business, Royal Mail is responding to the huge growth in electronic communications and decline in letter volumes.”

The spokesman continued by saying there will be increased opening hours at the Wickersley Post Office for customers to collect items we have been unable to deliver.

The opening hours will be Monday to Thursday 8.30am to 5.30pm, Friday, 9am to 5.30pm and Saturday 9am to 12pm.

The Royal Mail is reminding customers that they can now leave many of items with a neighbour if customers are not at home when we attempt delivery.

Customers can also nominate a dedicated neighbour to take in their parcels by filling in a form at the delivery office.
